Canon Focuses on Digital

Japan's top camera maker, Canon Inc., says it will stop developing new single-lens reflex film cameras as more people turn to digital models. The move followed a similar one by Canon's closest Japanese competitor, Nikon Corp., which announced earlier this year it would stop making 7 of its 9 film cameras and concentrate on digital. Japanese camera makers sold 64.77 million digital cameras last year globally, compared with 5.38 million film cameras.
