How is Perfume Made?

Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds, fixatives, and solvents. Before perfumes can be composed, the odorants used in various perfume compositions must first be obtained. Synthetic odorants are produced through organic synthesis and purified, while odorants from natural sources must be extracted from raw materials. What are the seven olfactive families in which fragrances are traditionally classified?
