The Tepee

The tepee, a typical dwelling of Native North Americans living on the Great Plains, was usually made by arranging tent poles into a conical frame and spreading skins, usually buffalo hide, tightly over it. The tepee provided a strong shelter against the weather, and an aperture was generally left at the top from which smoke could escape. The tepee was highly mobile and was dragged by a horse when a tribe was on the move. What is the etymology of the word "tepee?"
