Who Came Up With Toothpaste?
The earliest known reference to toothpaste appears in an Egyptian manuscript dating from the 4th century A.D. It prescribes a mixture of powdered salt, pepper, mint leaves, and iris flowers. By the early 1800s, the toothbrush was already being used, but usually only with water. Later, tooth powders became popular. Most were homemade, with chalk, pulverized brick, and salt as common ingredients. When did toothpaste as we know it come into existence?
