Flooding in Indonesia Kills Hundreds
In central Indonesia, landslides and heavy flooding have killed more than 200 people, with another 135 missing. In Sinjai, the hardest hit district of southern Sulawesi province, water and mud reached almost 7 feet high. The flash floods and landslides were triggered by seasonal downpours, and the government plans to investigate claims the disaster was exacerbated by illegal logging, which environmentalists contend loosens soils on mountainsides.
