British to Crack Down on Junk Food Ads
The UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) is proposing that all advertising of junk food products be banned from television programming until after 9pm. The measure is designed to counter the obesity epidemic in children. Recent figures now indicate that almost 1/3 of children under 16 are overweight, and 17% are clinically obese. Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, warned that such a ban would cost television channels nearly $261 million.
