ossicle

DEFINITION: (noun) A small bone, especially one of the three bones of the middle ear.
SYNONYMS: bonelet, ossiculum.
USAGE: Because of their distinctive shapes, the ossicles in the ear are called the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup.
