Rembrandt is considered one of the greatest painters in European history and the most important master of the Dutch school. Rembrandt's universal appeal rests upon his art's profound humanity. His masterful handling of light has been recognized even when his critics have considered his subject matter vulgar and indecorous. A fecund artist, he produced over 600 paintings, about 300 etchings, and nearly 2,000 drawings. How many self-portraits did Rembrandt produce?
