Could Weight Loss Signal Future Dementia in Women?
A new study suggests that for women, weight loss later in life may offer a clue to the onset of dementia. A research team at the Mayo Clinic analyzed medical records and found that women who develop dementia experience a drop in their weight as many as 10 years prior to the onset of memory loss. The findings suggest that dementia may interfere with body weight maintenance long before it affects memory and thinking.
