FDA Approves Potent New Sunscreen
The FDA has approved a sunscreen that blocks the type of ultraviolet radiation linked to some cancers. Anthelios SX contains ecamsule, a compound that helps protect against UVA radiation, which is believed to be linked to malignant melanoma. The sunscreen ingredients currently sold in the US block UVB rays, which are mainly responsible for causing sunburns. Anthelios SX is made by L'Oreal and will be distributed in the US by LaRoche-Posay.
