Aswan Dam

Aswan, Egypt, is a city located along the Nile River. Before the Aswan Low and High Dams were built there, in the early and mid 20th century, respectively, the river flooded every summer, rendering the surrounding area fertile for farming. As the population along the river grew, however, there came a need to control the flood waters to protect large farmlands and cotton fields. The Aswan Dams served this purpose, but they raised a number of environmental issues; what are these issues?
