Castro Hands Over Power to Brother

Cuban leader Fidel Castro, 79, has temporarily relinquished his presidential powers for the first time in 47 years of absolute rule. The Communist leader announced in a letter that he was temporarily handing over the presidency to his younger brother and successor, Raul, who also assumes control over the armed forces and leadership of the Communist Party. The move came after Castro underwent complicated gastrointestinal surgery.
