Eating Processed Meats May Increase Stomach Cancer Risk
According to scientists, eating more processed meats such as bacon, sausage, and smoked ham increases the risk of stomach cancer. A review of 15 studies showed the risk of developing stomach cancer rose by 15 to 38 percent if consumption of processed meats increased by 30 grams per day. Researchers say that the risk may be connected to the fact that these meats are often salted or smoked and have nitrates added to them.confrere

James Baldwin
Baldwin was a groundbreaking African-American author known for his novel Go Tell it on the Mountain. He dealt with social taboos such as racism and homosexuality at a time when mainstream literature largely ignored them. In 1948, he left America to live in Europe for an extended period and, upon his return, became actively involved in the civil rights movement. Who inspired and supported Baldwin's writing when he was young?Iraq Invades Kuwait
Hours after Saddam Hussein's Iraq invaded Kuwait, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 660, condemning the invasion and demanding a withdrawal of Iraqi troops. The move was partially motivated by a desire to protect Saudi Arabia and its valuable oilfields. A few months later, UN Resolution 678 set a January 15, 1991, deadline for the withdrawal of Iraqi forces; Hussein did not meet it. How many days after the deadline did the US attack?Henry James
I've always been interested in people, but I've never liked them.Piltdown Man
Piltdown man was the name given to human remains allegedly found during excavations in the early 1900s. In 1953, the find was revealed to be a fake. X-ray analysis proved that the jaw was from a chimpanzee; further tests demonstrated conclusively that parts of the remains were modern in origin. The hoax survived for over 40 years, partially because the British wanted a "First Briton" to compete with the cave-man nationals that the French and Germans already had. Who was responsible for the hoax?
