DEFINITION: (noun) A severe recurring vascular headache; occurs more frequently in women than men. SYNONYMS: hemicrania, migraine, sick headache. USAGE: Her megrims were severe, and she often had to miss work because of the terrible pain.

Alexander Fleming

Motivated by the devastating infection he saw in battlefield hospitals during WWI, Fleming, an English bacteriologist, set about searching for an effective antiseptic. In 1922, he discovered lysozyme, an antibacterial enzyme present in saliva, nasal secretions, and tears. In 1928, he isolated the antibiotic substance penicillin, which has forever changed modern medicine. This finding earned him a Nobel Prize. Compounds in Curry and Onions May Help Prevent Colon Cancer

In a new study, patients with pre-cancerous polyps in the colon who were given a pill containing a combination of curcumin and quercetin, found in curry and onions, experienced a marked reduction in both the size and number of polyps. Previous lab research on rodents and observational studies on populations that consume large amounts of curry have strongly suggested that curcumin might be effective against colorectal cancer.
