Ancient Waterworks Unearthed
Archaeologists in Israel uncovered an ancient network of reservoirs and tunnels that served as a water system for a massive palace in the biblical kingdom of Judea. The palace, first discovered in 1954, was remodeled throughout the centuries by the Babylonians, Persians, Romans, and Hasmoneans. The Persians, who took control of the region around 539 B.C.E., renovated the water system in an attempt to turn the desert into a paradise.phagocyte

Duke Kahanamoku
Kahanamoku, known as the "Big Kahuna," was an Olympic champion swimmer who is generally credited with having invented the modern sport of surfing. He was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming Hall of Fame and the Surfing Hall of Fame. In his youth, he favored an old-school board that was 16 feet long and designed in the fashion of ancient Hawaiian olo boards. What did he call this surfboard?Potato Chips First Prepared
It is believed that the original potato chip recipe was created by Native American chef George Crum at the Moon Lake Lodge in Saratoga Springs, NY, on August 24, 1853. Fed up with a customer who continued to send his fried potatoes back, claiming they were too thick and soggy, Crum decided to slice the potatoes so thinly that they couldn't be eaten with a fork. The customer was delighted, and the chips became a regular item on the lodge's menu. According to some accounts, who was the customer?Raoul Wallenberg
Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat and a member of the influential Wallenberg family, used his position to save the lives of between 20,000 and 100,000 Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust. He was able to do this by using Swedish embassy capital to house Jewish refugees and issue them "protection passports." In 1945, Wallenberg was captured by the Red Army and charged with being a spy. What happened to him?
