Last Passenger Pigeon Dies in Captivity

There were an estimated 5 billion passenger pigeons in the United States prior to the mid-1800s. They lived in enormous flocks that could extend a mile (1.6 km) wide and 300 miles (500 km) long. By the mid-19th century, it was clear that their population was in decline, with millions of the birds killed annually for food, hog feed, and even for sport. The last passenger pigeon died in 1914 at the Cincinnati Zoo. What was her name?
