All-American Girls Professional Baseball League

In the early 1940s, when the vast majority of able-bodied men were off fighting in World War II, several baseball executives decided to start a new professional league composed of women in order to keep baseball in the public eye. The league lasted past the end of the war into 1954 and differed from the men's league in pitching style, as well in terms of the size of the diamond and the size of the ball.
