Super Mario was one of the first side-scrolling platform games, introducing video-game players to expansive worlds that forever changed the way video games were played, perceived, and designed. Upon its release, it made Nintendo famous, putting it at the forefront of innovation in the video gaming industry. The 2005 special edition of the game sold approximately 876,000 units.
