Casanova was an 18th century adventurer and writer whose memoirs became world-famous. After a short career in the Church, he turned to a life of adventure, traveling all over Europe and supporting himself by gambling, spying, writing, and, especially, by his power to seduce women. He was imprisoned for witchcraft at age 30, but managed to escape and later amass a great fortune. A man of learning and taste, he wrote over 20 books and produced a translation of what famous epic poem?
