Remains of “Earliest Child” Found in Ethiopia
Filed under: add to del.icio.us
Scientists in Ethiopia have found the skeleton of a three-year-old female who belonged to the species Australopithecus afarensis, which is thought to be among the earliest direct ancestors of modern humans. The best-known specimen of this group is the famous "Lucy," a 3.2-million-year-old adult female discovered nearby in 1974. The baby skeleton is about 150,000 years older than Lucy and far more complete.
