A Suntan that Prevents Skin Cancer?
Boston scientists have developed a lotion that tans the skin without exposing it to sunlight. The research, conducted thus far only on mice, found that the lotion prompts skin cells to produce melanin, the darkening pigment that protects the skin from harmful UV radiation. The fair-skinned mice in the study developed substantial tans after receiving regular applications of the cream. Scientists used to a compound called forskolin to trigger the tanning.
