Bulgaria’s Independence Recognized

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Bulgaria was an autonomous province of the Ottoman Empire, but with the advent of revolution in Turkey, Prince Ferdinand declared Bulgaria an independent state in 1908 with himself as czar. Bulgaria was victorious against Turkey in the First Balkan Wars, but claims to Macedonia involved the state in the Second Balkan War with its former allies Greece and Serbia, and it was soon defeated.
