NYC Proposes Ban on Trans Fats
The city health department unveiled a proposal that would prohibit cooks at New York City's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain artificial trans fatty acids. The artery-clogging fats, which are commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil, are present in some shortenings , margarine, and frying oils and are found in foods like french fries and doughnuts. In Chicago, a similar proposed ban on trans fats has been protested by some who see it as unnecessary government meddling.
