According to new research, a drug that prevents sight loss could also help people regain some vision. Lucentis (ranibizumab ) is used to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), a disorder that results in new blood vessels growing behind the retina, which causes bleeding and scarring. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the drug can prevent vision loss in around nine out of 10 patients. Around a third of those receiving the drug also noticed improvement in their sight.
