Monarch Butterfly

This North American butterfly has wings that feature a recognizable orange and black pattern. Monarchs are known for their lengthy annual migrations, which exceed the lifetime of any given butterfly. How the species manages to return to the same spots over several generations is still the subject of research, but scientists believe that circadian rhythm and the position of the sun are involved.
