Australia to Build Solar Plant to Combat Electricity Shortage
Filed under: add to del.icio.us
To meet a growing demand for electricity, Australia plans to build the world's biggest solar power plant, a project that will cost $420 million ($318 million). The move comes amid warnings that the country could face blackouts within five years unless it can increase electricity generation to meet the growing demand for air conditioners. Australia is in the grip of the worst drought in 100 years, and air-conditioning is now a standard feature in new homes.
