The Patriarch of Constantinople is the Ecumenical Patriarch, who serves as the spiritual leader and chief spokesperson for the 16 Eastern Orthodox Churches. The current Patriarch has been active internationally, working to rebuild the Orthodox churches of the former Eastern Bloc countries following the fall of Communism and continuing reconciliation dialogues with the Roman Catholic Church.
