Marie-Antoinette
Marie-Antoinette was the wife of King Louis XVI of France. Their marriage was designed to ally France with Austria's ruling Hapsburg dynasty. Initially popular, she and her husband gained a reputation for corruption, and their actions hastened the public's disillusionment with the monarchy and the onset of the French Revolution. They were executed by guillotine, along with thousands of others. What was the famous Affair of the Diamond Necklace?
