Security was tight as Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Ankara, Turkey on Tuesday for his first visit to a Muslim country. The original goal of the visit was to meet with Bartholomew I, leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, but the trip is especially sensitive due to lingering controversy over a speech the pontiff made in September that appeared to conflate Islam and violence .milium

First Female British MP Elected
Nancy Witcher Astor, or Viscountess Astor, was the second woman elected to the British Parliament's House of Commons and the first to take a seat (the first female elected member had chosen not to do so). She attracted a great deal of attention, much of it for her caustic and witty comments, and was re-elected many times, serving until 1945. She was a Conservative member who concentrated on women's issues, temperance, and child welfare. What was the Cliveden Set?Wilhelm Steinitz
Steinitz was an Austrian chess player and the first official world chess champion. Adopting a scientific approach to his study of the game, he formulated his theories in scientific terms and defended his title from 1886 to 1894. After he lost his title, however, he developed severe mental health problems and spent his last years in a number of institutions in New York, dying a pauper in 1900. Who took the title from Steinitz, and what did he say with regard to Steinitz and his unfortunate fate?
