Earthquake in Japan Causes Nuclear Reactor Breach
Filed under: add to del.icio.us
A strong earthquake struck Japan on Monday, collapsing homes and damaging the world's most powerful nuclear power plant. At least 8 people have been reported dead and over 900 injured; some 10,000 people have fled to evacuation centers. The quake also triggered a small fire and a radioactive water leak at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear reactor. Officials claim that the water, which spilled into the sea, contained only trace amounts of nuclear material and poses little environmental threat.
