British Man Becomes First to Swim at North Pole
Lewis Gordon Pugh, a British lawyer and endurance swimmer, has become the first man to swim at the North Pole. Wearing only Speedo trunks, a swimming cap, and goggles, he swam 1 km (0.62 miles) in the -1.8C (28.76F) water to bring attention to the devastating impact of global warming on the environment. He called his swim both a triumph and a tragedy, saying it was "a triumph that I could swim in such ferocious conditions, but a tragedy that it is now possible to swim at the North Pole."
