When a research team in California compared the outcomes of liver transplant patients over age 70 to those between the ages of 50 and 59, they were surprised to find "no statistically significant difference in survival in the first 10 years after transplantation" between the 2 groups. The investigators concluded that four variables can be used to predict patient death, but age is not one of them.
