Numerous studies have revealed the many dangers of
secondhand smoke exposure, which include increased cancer and heart disease risk. Now, new research indicates that women who were exposed to their parents'
cigarette smoke during childhood are 80% more likely to
miscarry than those who had non-smoking parents. This is the first study to link childhood secondhand smoke exposure to adult reproductive ability. Investigators suggest that exposure to the harmful chemicals, such as
benzene, cadmium, and
lead, found in tobacco smoke may affect future reproductive health.
