Disease Tolerant Livestock Breeds Face Extinction
During a UN summit on animal genetic resources, scientists warned that drought and disease tolerant livestock breeds are dying out across developing countries, especially in Africa. The global market has become increasingly dependent on only a few high-yield species, displacing the indigenous cattle found in many developing nations and resulting in the loss of about one livestock breed per month. Researchers believe that the hardy livestock will become increasingly vital for world food supplies, and recommend creating regional gene banks to save these breeds. The Mediterranean Sea

The regions surrounding the sea have typically warm, dry, sunny climates. How many states have a coastline on the Mediterranean?
